3. Effects of locking Facebook profile
After you deactivate your Facebook (FB) profile, these are the changes that happen to your account:
- No one except your Facebook friends can click on your profile photo or FB cover photo and see it in full size.
- Except for your Facebook friends, no one will be able to see your photos and posts on your personal FB page.
- Exception: Shared albums and Facebook posts you've made on public pages, groups, and FB Marketplace will remain public.
- All of your old posts that were made publicly visible (meaning anyone on or off Facebook) will now become friends only. Except your FB friends, no one can see even your old Facebook posts.
- Even new posts and photos you post to Facebook will only be visible to your friends, not your friends' friends or the general public.
- You won't be able to post publicly.
- Only your Facebook friends can see your story.
- At most, only 5 profile details (things in your introduction) are visible to people who aren't your friends.
- From now on, if someone tags you in a FB post, that post will only appear on your Facebook profile after you've reviewed and approved the post.
In other words, locking your Facebook account changes a bunch of privacy settings and makes your posts, photos, and account details private to everyone.
Your Facebook friends will not be affected by this change and they can continue to see your profile and cover photo, uploaded or tagged photos, posts and details as before. If you don't want a friend to see this information, you can unfriend or block that person.
Note : Even after locking your profile, this won't change how people find and contact you. If someone searches for you by name, username, email, etc., your profile will continue to appear in the search results. And they can be contacted according to your communication settings.
4. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
When should you deactivate your Facebook account?
When you believe that someone else is misusing your uploaded images on Facebook, you can deactivate your Facebook profile. This function is also useful when you don't want anyone to secretly view your profile to check your education level, interests, mobile phone number and even date of birth.
What happens to profile photo, cover photo, and featured photo when an account is locked?
Whenever a user locks their Facebook account, only people in their friends list can click on the photo to view it. People who aren't on your friends list will see smaller versions of your profile photo and cover photo. However, your current profile photo and cover photo will be visible to everyone, even though they can't open them. Furthermore, only friends can tag, comment or like on your profile or cover photo.
What happens to posts, photos, albums and more after a Facebook account is locked?
When a Facebook account is locked, all posts, photos, albums and stories on the profile will only be visible to their friends. That person can no longer create public posts from their profile. Same with photos, albums and stories.
What to do if your account is temporarily locked by Facebook?
Your account may also be temporarily locked because Facebook has detected suspicious activity in your account.
You may have entered your password on a site like Facebook or on a third-party tool. When Facebook detects suspicious activity in your account, the platform will lock your account as a security measure.
In some cases, your account may have been locked by mistake. Many users have reported that their Facebook accounts were locked by mistake because they were not using any third-party apps or tools. However, they could not unlock their accounts even after following the on-screen instructions because the security code was not sent.
If you don't receive your security code or if the on-screen instructions don't work, try the following to unlock your Facebook account.
- To fix the “Your account is temporarily locked” issue on Facebook, you need to submit the “Report a sign-in problem” form.
- Additionally, you can submit the “Check your login security” form and the “Confirm your identity with Facebook” form. These forms allow you to contact Facebook directly to recover your account.
After you submit the form, Facebook will contact you via the email address you provided. You will usually hear back from them in 1 to 5 business days. Sometimes, you need to wait a longer time to receive Facebook's response. This is because Facebook receives so many reports every day, so it may take them a while to receive your report.
