Although streaming from a service like Spotify can be convenient, this is not the best solution for the music you have owned. Many people like to use Plexamp because it does not require Plex Pass, extremely easy to set. This is the perfect combination!
1. How to start with Plexamp
It can be said that the hardest part is to install all the software you need. To start, you will need two software: Plex Media Server and Plexamp. Technically, you also need Plex application, but can open this application from the browser. However, if your browser consumes a lot of resources, the article recommends using the application.
To start everything:
- Create Plex account.
- Optional: Download and install Plex to the device you are hosting your music library. Whether you are using Linux, Windows or Mac, the setup is in the Downloads folder.
- Download and install Plex Media Server into the host device. For example, using a PC as a server because it is a place to store all music, but you can also turn Raspberry Pi into Plex Media Server easily.
- Next, download the Plexamp app to the device you want to stream your music library, such as tablets, laptops or phones.
Basically, while Plex Media Server is running, Plexamp will connect to that server, allowing you to enjoy your music library without taking up valuable storage. But before anything of them can happen, you must first add your music library to Plex.
Note: Plex Media Server is also available for many different NAS systems.
2. Add music library to Plex Media Server

You think that adding music will be done through Plexamp, but the reality is through Plex, it may be through browser or application itself. Using the device you are storing music library:
- Run Plex Media Server. Note that nothing will appear; It only makes sure the server is running.
- Open Plex, by accessing the website or running the application.
- Open Settings. It is the wrench symbol in the upper right corner, next to your profile icon. Then select Libraries In tab Manageon the left side.
- Select Add Library. Select Music. You can also name the library!
- Finally, choose Browse for Media Folder.
From there, you will see the analysis results for all folders on your computer. You want the folder to contain all your music. Once found, end by choosing Add Library. If your music is scattered everywhere, it is best to use the tools to arrange your music collection before continuing. All should be stored in a folder, instead of adding individual libraries at the same time.
3. How to stream music library on Plexamp

We have not completed the installation. However, at this time, you can stream music in your network without any problems. Just start the Plexamp application on the device, choose the music library you just added, that's it! But to stream outside your home? First, you need to turn on remote access.
- Come back Settings.
- In tab Settings On the left, choose Remote Access.
- Click the button Enable Remote Access.
It will run without problems, but if you have a problem, you will have to transfer your host device gate using the modem's network settings. It only takes less than a minute!
