Raspberry Pi Company has launched a series of products by 2024 and shows no signs of slow down by 2025. Now, you can finally buy a Raspberry Pi 5 with 16GB memory, open many projects. New interesting and the opportunity to use Raspberry Pi 5 as a real desktop!
1. Actual desktop experience

The first Single Raspberry Pi computer, Model B, was released in October 2012 and had 256MB RAM. It is almost impossible to use to calculate reality, but cheap, effective and can be customized. Raspberry Pi 4 Model B is the first product that promises to experience Desktop, but it only comes with 8GB RAM and is limited during actual use.
Raspberry 5 16GB variant costs 120 USD from official Raspberry Pi retailers, up 40 USD compared to 8GB variant.
Raspberry Pi 5 with 16GB RAM is a very strong candidate for the daily driver. 16GB RAM and ARM Cortex-A76 quad-core processor 64-bit 2.4GHz are likely to mean that Raspberry Pi 5 is more likely to bring a more realistic desktop experience.
2. Run the AI model and LLM

According to Eben Upton, the founder and CEO of Raspberry Pi Ltd, artificial intelligence (AI) and a large language model (LLM) is one of the expected use cases for the new 16GB variant.
Machine Learning's inference tends to use more calculated and ram resources as much as possible. Although Raspberry Pi 5 is not the best option to train the model, it can be used to run some small Machine Learning models for computer vision, voice recognition and other applications. Adding special hardware like Raspberry Pi Hilo or Raspberry Pi Camera AI opens more likely.
A 16GB Raspberry Pi 5 can run most language models of less than 7 billion parameter, such as chatglm, Openllama, Llama code and Microsoft Africa, with full capacity for other tasks.
3. Design and create 3D models

Although Raspberry Pi 5 does not target designers or visual artists, it can be used for simple 2D and 3D graphics designs. A single US $ 120 -priced computer will not be compared with the performance of a complete computer, but it is suitable for light design tasks and small projects. Additional integrated RAM means you can work with a little larger files and complete projects faster than old variants.
4. Self -service host

The cloud is another person's computer. For privacy, security and even education, you should consider hosting some services that you often use on Raspberry Pi running local.
16GB RAM is large enough to run many services on the same Raspberry Pi without building a cluster or using coordinating software. You can run Home Assistant, Pi-Hole, Nextcloud, Jellyfin and your personal WordPress website on a single pi without using all memory bandwidth.
5. Play games and simulate

Playing classical games is very popular in the Raspberry Pi community. There are specialized classic game distributions (such as retropie) and the hardware set for Raspberry Pi. Raspberry Pi 5 surpasses Raspberry Pi 4 and can simulate more complex hardware such as Sega Saturn, GameCube, PS2, PSP and Dreamcast.
Technically, you do not need 16GB RAM to run most classical games. However, that means you don't have to turn off other applications before playing games on Raspberry Pi. For classic gaming purposes, 16GB RAM is a great feature to help improve the overall experience.
6. Run the virtual machine and container

With 16GB RAM, you can run virtual machines and containers on Raspberry Pi. You can create a separate environment for applications and tweak everything at the system level. Proxmox is an open source virtualized platform to manage virtual machines and containers. It is not available directly for Raspberry Pi, but with some tweaks, you can set it through PIMOX.
The 16GB Raspberry Pi will run a few virtual machines smoothly, although the performance may begin to decrease as the resource demand increases.
Warning: Because Proxmox is not officially supported, setup may be unstable and not recommended for professional implementation.
7. Security and monitoring at home

Home monitoring is not a project that requires a high -tech Raspberry Pi model, especially if you are streaming from a few cameras. The old Raspberry Pi models create great home security cameras for that reason.
However, if you need a 1080p video stream from many high -resolution cameras, you may need Raspberry Pi 5 with 16GB of RAM to handle additional bandwidth. You can also run advanced handling such as motion detection and face recognition.
The Raspberry Pi series has made great progress in both price and performance. Raspberry Pi 5 16GB is about 3 times more expensive than the original B model but also more likely to be much higher. Although the price increases significantly, the performance increases very well.
