How to display iPhone battery percentage on iOS 16

On iOS 16 beta 5, Apple has just brought back to the iPhone a useful feature that is displaying battery percentage in the status bar. Now, whether you are on the home page, in the app… you can still see the battery percentage clearly displayed.

Interestingly, the ability to display battery percentage won't appear until iOS 16 beta 5 (or public beta 3) is installed. Some people will find this feature enabled by default, but others will have to turn it on manually.

This is the first time battery percentage has been included in the status bar of iPhone models with Face ID after it was removed with the launch of the iPhone X in 2017.

Some information about the battery percentage display feature

  • When your iPhone is not plugged in, you will see the normal battery icon with the battery percentage inside. It will display a complete battery icon with colors that change depending on the app and show the battery level in numbers until the battery drops below 20%.
  • If your iPhone is in power saving mode, the battery icon turns yellow but still displays the battery percentage.
  • When you plug in the charger, you'll see a small charging icon next to the battery percentage number.
  • If your iPhone is below 20% battery (without power saving mode enabled), the battery icon will turn red with the battery percentage number displayed inside.
