Some iPhone and iPad models will not be updated to iOS 16 when it is released in 2022. These include devices that are 8 years old and some that are only 5 years old.
Apple always tries to upgrade the operating system for its devices for as many years as possible. In 2021, iOS 15 still supports all the devices that iOS 14 once supported. However, iOS 16 may stop updating for a bunch of older devices.
